Proudly Breeding Healthy And Friendly Fancy Rats - Churchill, Victoria

The Rattery

Inside the Rattery

I pride my rattery in cleanliness and organisation, all my rats are very VERY well cared for, i believe they have one of the best diets in the country, and i am always researching about anything i can do to improve that diet and there care in general. They have a large amount of room to play and explore in there cages, as well as free range time in my bathroom 1-2 times a week. They have lots of toys and constant access to an unlimited supply of my dry mix as well as cummins lab blocks and ofcourse fresh filtered water in a demand type water bottle. They all get treated regularly with revolution to prevent mites, lice, ect. None of my rats have ever had any of those problems, but it is a preventative as i do go to public shows and displays with them.

All my rats live in air conditioned comfort during hot and very cold days, they also have there own filter and water cooler.

They get shredded paper to make nests and play with. There cages are safe and baby proof from young ones as little as 6 weeks old.

Breeding Standards and Goals

I strive to improve the health, longevity and temperment of rats in general, I only breed standard coat type and occasionally single rex (curly/wavy) coat type. Anything other than single rex, to me has not been proven to be physically sound, double rexes and patchwork rexes (result from too many inbreedings of double rex) have weakened immune systems, and thus get sick easier. Silkies and Carasilks have been known to have a higher intollerance to protein thus causing scabs and sores. By breeding rats i am only breeding to improve the rat as a whole, these weakened rats gain nothing by having bald patches, as a manx (no tail) gains nothing by losing it's tail, tails are used for balance, temperature control and communication, thus they only lose those things by being bred.

My morals for my breeding program is to breed the best possible PET rat first and foremost, with the best possible health, temperment and longevity, then i will focus on confirmation, markings and colour, i dont want to sacrifice the former for the latter.

My marking/colour goals are hopefully one day to breed wedge blazed rats in more unusual colours such as mink, cinnamon and dove.

Females are bred no younger than 8 months, and have a maximum of 2 litters in there lifetime. Males are bred at a mimimum of 10 months.
